For the final presentation I chose to use the tool Padlet. Padlet is an
online tool that allows you to put documents, photos, and text onto a blank and
editable page. You can change privacy settings, the background of the page, and
many other settings. Padlet used to be called Wallwisher. It was used to wish
people happy birthday when it was first created. On February
7th, 2013, the makers of Wallwisher changed their name to a more suiting
name, Padlet. It has now evolved into a full-fledged mind mapping tool that is one
of the best free ones on the internet. I chose to do this Web 2.0 tool because we
have used it before and it was easy to use. It had many good features and was
totally free to use. You didn’t even have to have an account to make a wall,
although making an account would help you to save your walls.
The tools that I used in my presentation are padlet, wordle, prezi,
bibme, bubbl.us, and creately. I explained my usage of Padlet in the above
paragraph. To make my presentation and use a mind mapping tool, I chose to
use the tool Prezi. Prezi is a cool way to make a presentation without using
PowerPoint. It has many different layouts and templates to choose from.
I chose a template with multiple circles branching off of a larger circle. Prezi
was my tool of choice because it was entirely free. You did have to sign up
for an account to use it but it was well worth it. I chose to use Wordle in my
presentation because it would add a nice photo to my presentation. To use
Wordle, I found a whole bunch of words that pertained to Padlet. I used words
like “mind mapping,” “organization,” and “brainstorm.” I then had to screen shot
the Wordle and insert it into my presentation. Another tool that I used in my
presentation was Bibme. Bibme is an online tool that really helps out high
school and college students. It takes any webpage, book, or any other source
that you use in any essay or presentation and puts it into a works cited form.
You can put it into MLA, which I used, APA, or Chicago formats. To save my works
cited on Bibme, I made a quick account and downloaded it to word. After
downloading it, I saved the document, copied it, and pasted it to my Prezi
presentation. I chose to use this tool because it automatically takes all of the
hard work out of making a bibliography and all you have to do is copy and paste
your website’s URL. I also chose it because Easybib, another bibliography
formatter, was not working with my computer. For my T-chart, I decided to use
the website Creately. I easily made an account on this website and quickly went
to create my chart. Creately was easy to use because you could find a template
by searching their database. I found many different T-chart templates and, when
I decided on a design, I effortlessly was able to make my chart in a matter of
minutes. All I had to do was to fill in each section with the information that
was needed for each website. I chose this website because Mrs. Paulsen
recommended it to me and it was about the only website that would allow me to
create an actual T-chart online. The other websites only allows me to print
T-charts off and the one I found that did let me make it online was not working
properly. The last website that I
used in my presentation was bubbl.us. I used bubbl.us because it was a mind
mapping tool that was similar to Padlet. I chose this one because it had the
same concept as Padlet, but it was very obvious that it was not as good as
Padlet was.
While making this presentation, I did encounter a couple of problems.
My major problem throughout the entire project was that I did not understand
what we were doing. After I got through that, there were more technological
problems. The first thing that went wrong was when I needed to make a T-chart.
I was looking all over the internet for an online web 2.0 tool that would allow me
to put information in and it would create a T-chart that I could either download
or just take a snapshot of it. After searching forever, I finally found one. After
I had filled everything in, I realized that the website was not working right.
Luckily Mrs. Paulsen showed me Creately, which was a lot easier to use.
